Mrs Dolapo Dosunmu, the Director of the National Orientation Agency(NOA) in Oyo State, has implored intending retirees to participate actively in pre-retirement training programmes organised for them.
She said such training would enable intending retirees to be well equipped to plan ahead for a smooth transition from life in service to life after service.
“Some of these training programmes give opportunity to intending retirees to know various businesses which they can engage in after retirement.
” The training also guides them on what to expect and prepare them for challenges after retirement.
“But it is disturbing that some of our intending retirees in Nigeria don’t really take these pre retirement training serious, thus, many civil servants do not attend them.
” I implore intending retirees to have attitudinal change about this by taking pre retirement training serious.” the NOA boss stated.
Dosunmu further urged the retirees to be good ambassadors of the agency wherever they go, saying their footprints in the agency would remain forever.
Also addressing the retirees, Mr Peter Omofoye, the Chairman of the Police Community Relation Committee in Oyo state, said the way the retirees live would determine how long they would live on earth.
Omofoye further urged them to manage the little resources they have and should not adopt the lifestyle of others.
The duo, however, urged government to prioritise the welfare of pensioners, noting that prompt and regular payments of gratuity and allowances would ensure healthy living for pensioners.
