Gwandu Emirate Gears Up for Annual Horse Racing And Cultural Festival

Kebbi State’s Gwandu Emirate is set to host its annual Horse Racing and Cultural Festival from November 18 to 23, 2024, at the Emir Muhammad Ilyasu Bashar Race Course in Birnin Kebbi. This exciting event aims to showcase and preserve the emirate’s rich traditions, promote unity and understanding among its people, and provide opportunities for youths, Nigerians, and international community members to experience the emirate’s vibrant cultural heritage.

The event includes: International Horse Racing : Thrilling equestrian competitions featuring over 250 horses, showcasing the finest horses and riders.

Traditional Games and Crafts : A showcase of traditional games, trades, and crafts prevalent in the ancient Gwandu Emirate.

Agricultural Trade Fair : An engaging platform for farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs to access various inputs, services, and technologies.

Fulani Hotungo : A cultural display proudly showcasing the rich heritage of the Fulani people.

The festival extends an invitation to nationals from Niger Republic, Benin Republic, Dubai, and other African countries to participate in the celebration. According to Alhaji Mustapha Adamu-Kaoje, Chief Coordinator of the festival, the event is part of the emirate’s contribution to the government of Governor Nasir Idris, leaving behind lasting legacies in the state.

The festival is organized by the Gwandu Emirate Council, in collaboration with the Kebbi State Government and the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation. By promoting Kebbi State’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance, Gwandu Emirate aims to provide opportunities for local businesses to thrive through increased commerce during the festival.
