Governor Matawalle Awards Contract For The Construction Of 423 Classrooms In Zamfara.

His Excellency Zamfara State Executive Governor Hon Dr. Bello Mohammed MON (Matawallen Maradun) has approved contract for the construction of a total of 423 classrooms in the state to be executed by indigenous contractors.

This was contained in statement by Yusuf Idris Gusau, Director General Media, Public Enlightenment and Communication, Government House, Gusau.

The statement further explain that, this was part of the governor’s speech during the presentation of certificates for the project to the benefiting home based contractors which held at his private residence in Gusau, the state capital on Friday 22 May 2020.

At the event, Governor Matawalle reaffirmed his administration’s total commitment to revitalize and overhaul the basic education sector in the state.

He pointed out that since the inception of his administration, he declared a state of emergency in the education sector due to his firm belief that education remains the only viable way of achieving development and economic prosperity anywhere in the world.

He said, his administration will continue to give much priority to education especially the basic education

and that he will continue to access all the available grants by releasing the counter part funds where the previous government failed and resulted in the collapse of the sector..

The Governor further said that apart from the construction of 423 classrooms, 148 existing classrooms will be renovated while boreholes fit with overhead tanks will also be sunk in all the  schools for the purpose of providing portable and hygienic water to the teachers and the students.

Matawalle also called on the indigenous contractors to ensure total compliance to all the contractual agreements and use of  standard construction materials in the execution of the project for the benefit of the state and its future generations.

He also emphasized on his administration’s policy of the use of local labour and the purchase of all available construction materials within the state in order to create employment to the people of the State warning that any contractor who violates the set government  policies will be sanctioned outrightly.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, Honourable Abubakar Aliyu (Danmadamin Maradun) said the 423 classrooms project is under the 2019 matching grant of 3.1 billion Naira and that apart from the construction of the 423 classrooms there will be the renovation of 148 existing structures, 19 boreholes with overhead water tanks, fencing of 20 schools, 57 cells VIP toilets and 3 units of VIP latrines.

Danmadamin Maradun also disclosed that all the contracts awarded by his board under the 2018 intervention grants  amounting to 5.5 billion naira have been completed.

The Chairman explained that  over 900 classrooms were constructed and 375 dilapidated classrooms were renovated in the state.

He also thanked the governor for the support and assistance being rendered to the board.

The ceremony was attended by the state Deputy Governor, Barr Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, Chief of Staff Government House, Col Bala Mande rtd, Commissioners of Special Duties and Information, Muhammad Maiturare Sadiq and Suleiman Tunau Anka among others.
