The Kaduna Zonal Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Aliyu Datsama, has said that the corps had arrested no fewer than 509 traffic offenders within two days across states in the zone.

The commander told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kaduna that the motorists were arrested between March 3 and March 4, 2020 during a special patrol tagged Operation Sanity, conducted by 1,781 officers and marshals.

The zone comprises Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.

He disclosed that in another operation,154 traffic offenders were convicted by mobile courts out of 184 of those arrested, while 30 were discharged.

Datsama said the FRSC had carried out advocacy and public enlightenment campaigns in parks, mosques, and churches within the period.

According to him, stakeholders involvement has manifested in improved road user behavior between the first and second week of March; resulting in reduction in road traffic crashes.

“People injured and people killed reduced with these initiatives in the period under review.

“We are calling on the motoring public to always exercise caution, patience and restraint while using the road,’’ he said.

Datsama said that Operation Sanity would be sustained throughout the year to make the roads are more safer.
