Kebbi State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, emphasized that access to electricity is now a necessity, not a luxury. He made this statement at the public hearing for the Kebbi State Electricity Bill 2024, submitted by Governor Nasir Idris. The bill aims to improve infrastructure and service delivery, particularly in electricity, to drive economic growth and innovation.
Speaker noted that despite government efforts, many communities face persistent power supply challenges, affecting productivity and economic opportunities. The bill addresses these issues by outlining roles for government agencies, private partners, and regulating bodies.
The Assembly Committee on Rural and Community Development, chaired by Hon. Faruk Abubakar Mai-Sudan, will gather input from stakeholders, civil society organizations, and the public before passing the bill.
By approving this bill, the House aims to transform access to electricity, promote economic growth, and uplift living standards in Kebbi State.
