The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kebbi State has called on commercial transporters and motorists to avoid overloading, to curb the spread of corona virus.
The sector commander, who was at the office of the Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kebbi chapter, Abubakar Usman-Bagudu, stressed the need for total compliance with health directives to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
Abayomi-Asaniyan said: “We ought to apply basic Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) principles and obey local health directives to safeguard our people from Covid-19 pandemic.
“I wish to also advise motorists in the state to adhere strictly to the minimum loading capacity of vehicles as part of efforts to avoid the infection and spread of the virus.”
He advised commercial transporters to carry less passengers so as to abide by the social distancing policy during the trying period of the pandemic.
“By this way, we believe the spread of the coronavirus can be minimised,” he said.
Responding, Usman-Bagudu said that it was a welcome suggestion, assuring the FRSC chief that members of the union would not be left out in government’s efforts toward containing the virus in the country.
