Maiyama local government Area of Kebbi State – In the aftermath of a devastating flood that collapsed a bridge linking over 20 villages, including Mayalo, Sambawa, Gumbin-Kure, and Uguwar Shuaibu, the affected communities have come together to construct an emergency access road to the local government headquarters and neighboring villages.
The flood incident, which occurred on Friday, August 16, 2024, left the communities isolated, prompting the swift response from the residents and their leaders. The Sole Administrator of Maiyama LGA, Alhaji Haruna Mashabo Jega has pledged immediate support to the affected communities and commended their efforts in creating an emergency access road.
Ambassador Hassan Adamu, a native of Gumbin-Kure, has sponsored the creation of the access road, citing the need to alleviate the isolation of his hometown and surrounding communities. Adamu, who was born and raised in Owerri, Imo State, emphasized his commitment to giving back to his community, highlighting his previous contributions, including the construction of a healthcare facility, police outpost, and Islamic school.
The community is now calling on the federal, state, and local governments, international communities as well as well-meaning individuals and philanthropies, to support the reconstruction of the bridge and provide aid to the affected villages.
This remarkable display of community resilience and solidarity serves as a testament to the power of collective action in the face of adversity.
