The Yobe State Government has approved the establishment of three weather stations to address climate change challenges in the state.
This was announced by Malam Abdullahi Bego, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, after the state executive council meeting presided over by the Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana.
He said the approved weather stations would be located in Damaturu, Machina and Gulani local government areas.
The establishment of the stations, with a total cost of N189.9m, aims to assist in tackling climate change issues and agricultural challenges in the region, he added.
Malam Bego emphasised that Yobe State had been experiencing issues such as dunes, dust storms and irregular rainfall.
The new weather stations, according to him, would not only provide weather forecasts, but also contribute to the study and monitoring of climate change and its impacts on the state’s environment and agricultural sector.
