Ibrahim Musa, the Commander, Bauchi State Hisbah Command, has urged the state government to upgrade the command into a full pledge board to enable it enjoy operational autonomy in the discharge of its duties.
Musa made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Bauchi.
He said the call was imperative toward establishing an autonomous Board with statutory law and powers to arrest as well as execute search warrant on suspects and criminals.
Musa said that the state government had recently sponsored 8 personnel of the command on a visit to Zamfara and Kano States, to enable them to study and familiarise themselves with full operational activities of Hisbah command in the states.
According to him, the command will soon embark on a joint operation in the 20 local government areas of the state, to check social vices such as drug abuse, prostitution, sales and consumption of alcohol.
NAN reports that the Hisbah command has been under the state’s Sharia Commission since inception in the past two decades.
