Maiyama, Kebbi State, Nigeria – A devastating bridge collapse has occurred in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, leaving several villages isolated.

The bridge, which links Mayalo, Sambawa, Gumbin-Kure, Uguwar Shuaibu, and Gandiji villages, gave way due to heavy rainfall that started on Thursday and continued into Friday morning.

Eyewitnesses report that the bridge, a critical transportation artery for the affected communities, was washed away by the floodwaters, leaving residents stranded. The collapse has disrupted economic activities, social interactions, and access to essential services in the affected villages.

Rescue efforts are underway, with local authorities and emergency responders working to evacuate stranded residents and assess the extent of the damage. The cause of the collapse is attributed to the heavy rainfall, which exceeded the bridge’s capacity.

The affected communities are calling on the government to expedite repairs and reconstruction of the bridge to restore connectivity and normalcy to their lives.

This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
