The three wives of the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly have jointly donated sewing and noodle making machines to 70 women.

The three wives Hajiya Hauwa Suleiman, Hajiya Rashida Suleiman and Hajiya Bilkisu Suleiman donated the materials to the 70 women drawn from Ningi Central Constituency.

The speaker’s wives said they decided to complement their husband’s effort in empowering women and making them self-reliant.

Hajiya Rashida, who spoke on behalf of the three donors, described women as the backbone of the society.

According to her, empowering a single woman is akin to empowering a thousand because of the key role women play in the society.

She pointed out that they identified tailoring and noodle making as major occupations of the women in the constituency and through which many of them earned a living.

“That is the reason for donating the machines to boost economic ventures among the women in the area,” she said.

She urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the machines and to engage more women in their businesses and occupations.

Mrs Maimuna Hassan, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed their appreciation to the speaker’s family for the “magnanimous gesture’’.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items donated included 50 noodle making machines and 20 sewing machines to 70 women picked from the eleven wards in the constituency. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
