Association of Positive Youth living with HIV in Nigeria (APYIN) has decried the shortage of test kits for HIV intervention in Kaduna state. Mr Aaron Sunday, APYIN Kaduna Coordinator, said in an interview with the Newsmen on Tuesday in Kaduna.
According to him, the shortage of the test kits will affect the state’s ability to identify missing Adolescents and Young People who need to know their status and subsequently be placed on treatment.
“The shortage of the test kits might endanger the state of losing some of the adolescent and young people to death due to their inability to have knowledge of their status and get the right treatment,” he said.
According to national HIV survey, the prevalence rate for female AYPS aged between 15 and 24 is 0.3 while the male is 0.4 and the state 1.1.
He stated that there was an urgent need for the state government to assist in providing the test kits so as to help young people.
