The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), in collaboration with the Depot, Nigerian Army Zaria has distributed 400 bags of grains to vulnerable people at Kugama village, Falgore, in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.
The donation of the palliative, on Tuesday, followed a joint military exercise code named ‘Exercise Kugama’
embarked on by the NDA and the Depot at Falgore Forest, involving cadet officers and recruits.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a maternity hospital in the community was also rehabilitated.
In a message at the event, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai expressed determination of the Nigerian Army in sustaining the tempo of its Corporate Social Responsibity (CSR) in line with the prevailing democratic dispensation.
Burutai said the army had a role to play in uplifting the people in need of urgent help.
The Chief of Army Staff was represented by the General Officer Commanding I Division, Kaduna, Maj-Gen. Usman Mohammed.
He said that putting in place a befitting maternity edifice in the hospital and installation of state of the art facilities would go a long way toward reducing the maternal mortality rate
Buratai said the army had also seen the compelling need to join the crusade against the much dreaded Coronavirus.
He said that the Army was poised to exploit the existing cordial relationship between the military and the state government.
According to him, maintaining such synergy has become imperative at the present critical stage.
The Chief of Army Staff said that the palliative given was to cushion the hardship of the beneficiaries, with the Coronavirus pandemic taking a toll on the people of the country.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, on his part, commended the gesture and said that the medical edifice built in the hospital had been the army’s sole effort in fulfilment of its CSR.
Ganduje said his government was ready to take the gauntlet in maintaining the facilities installed in it.
The governor who was represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Muhammad Garba, said the relationship between the Army and his government had over the years remained cordial.
He said that his government was willing to assist other security agencies to wax stronger, noting that maintaining such relationship would be in the interest of both parties.
