ABU Non-Teaching Staff Protest Over Non-Payment of Earned Allowance, IPPS, others

Non teaching staff union, NASU Ahmadu Bello University branch, followed the suit of their branches in other universities by embarking on a warning protest over federal government failure to fulfilled their promises.

In the early morning of Wednesday, 13/1/2021, the members of the union came out enmass in the premises of the University, singing songs that expresses their struggles for their betterment.

Our correspondent is one of the journalists that witnessed the protest, where the union describe some of their demands to the federal government.

Our correspondent in an interview with the Secretary of the union, ABU Zaria branch, Emmanuel Adigwu, asked whether he will tell the world their demands to the federal government, and without hesitation he answered by saying, ‘The purpose of embarking on this protest is to press for our demands from the federal government, since October there is the issue of payment of our earned allowances, arrears of minimum wage, inconsistency in the payment of IPPS, federal government refusal to negotiate with the union and also the non-payment of disengaged and gone members, so that’s why we are here to protest to the federal government that it have not done well, have not corrected the abnormalities mentioned.’

He also made mentioned that the federal government should consider the hardships and sufferings the people are going through which includes inflation of food items, goods and services as well as issues like health care and transportation. He said that why their their members responded to the call, all of them to conduct the warning protest of three days according to the provisions of the law.

He also called on the members of the union to be always cooperative to the national leadership of the union, he said that will lead to their overall success. He then called on the federal government to be always fulfilling its promises because that is what will bring about peace and harmony.

The protest was ended peacefully.
