In a bid to combat malaria and other diseases, Kebbi State has launched a comprehensive fumigation exercise targeting mosquitoes and dangerous reptiles. Governor Nasir Idris mandated the Ministry of Environment to cover all 21 local government areas, prioritizing the health and well-being of citizens.
Led by Director of Environmental Health, Alhaji Muhammad Nasiru Musa, the exercise has already covered key areas in the state capital, including: Government Institutions such as Government House and the House of the Deputy Governor residence, Healthcare Facilities like Hospitals, including the Kebbi State Teaching Hospital, Kalgo, Public Spaces, Markets, Motor parks, and other public gathering areas
Dr. Abubakar Attahiru Ka’oje, Chief Medical Director of the Kebbi State Teaching Hospital, praised the initiative, stating, “The state government’s effort to improve health-related issues is apt and timely.” He noted that the fumigation will also help drive away snakes and other reptiles that frequent the hospital premises.
Alhaji Muhammad Musa explained that the objective is to eliminate mosquitoes at both adult and larvae stages, emphasizing the importance of combating malaria and dengue fever. The Ministry of Environment has extended its coverage to Argungu, Yauri, and Zuru Emirates, with plans to cover all 21 local government areas. Governor Idris’s commitment to public health has energized the Ministry, ensuring a collective effort to eliminate malaria.
