Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, says, his administration will uphold the protection of the rights and privileges of children from childhood to maturity at all cost.
He made this emphasis at the celebration of the 2024 Children’s Day in Birnin Kebbi .
Represented by the deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, Comrade Nasir Idris added that, the government would strictly protect all children against any form of abuse or violence at home, school and other abodes.
“My administration will inculcate virtues of hard work into children, provide them with quality education, protect their rights and privileges. All efforts will be made to enable children realise their potential in life”, the Governor assured.
He adds, “Children, boys and girls, have the right to proper growth with absolute rights, the future of the society is in children, they will receive necessary guidance from the government”.
Governor Nasir Idris said the administration would encourage children to advance and excel in academic pursuit as well as acquire skills towards becoming self independent and self reliant.
He charged parents and guardians to instil moral values into their children and wards to guard against immorality and involvement in social vices while teachers should rededicate themselves to hardwork and sacrifice.
“I will continue to put necessary measures in place for the improvement of the education sector to achieving quality in knowledge” he reiterated.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande, expressed appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris for resuscitating the celebration of the Children’s Day, last held in Kebbi State in 2018.
“Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has demonstrated commitment to attending to the plight of children. He has approved week-long celebrations of the Children’s Day, that involved educational excursion visit to Abuja which was last carried out by students from the state in 1976. He has made positive impact on developing the education sector”, she remarked.
The Commissioner announced that the Governor has paid all outstanding fees for students amounting to one billion naira, which include tuition, examinations, feeding and accommodation as well as provided free exercise books to all pupils and students in the state.
“I am requesting teachers to observe their ethics of imparting appropriate knowledge to children, teach them well. Also, pupils and students must obey school rules and regulations, you must be disciplined” emphasised the Commissioner.
At the march past, Army Day Girls Secondary School, Birnin Kebbi, took the first position at secondary level while Kauran Gwandu Model Primary School emerged the best at primary level.
Debate featured on girl child education among students with the winners going home with various prizes.
